ExpressVPN — Best VPN for iOS users in 2022.

ExpressVPN Features

ExpressVPN provides the following security features:

• AES encryption with 256 bits Encryption which makes internet traffic unreadable from the end-to-end.
• ExpressVPN has no logs policy. ExpressVPN doesn’t log any information about you, your internet traffic, or files that are downloaded. ExpressVPN was verified by an independent auditor.
• Network lock kill switch This feature prevents data leaks from happening by shutting down internet traffic if you are not connected to the VPN server.

ExpressVPN’s servers run on RAM memory. This means there is no hard drive. All data is erased every time the server reboots.

ExpressVPN also has its own DNS for each server. This ensures that DNS queries are not seen by third parties and that the server’s response times are faster.

Split-Tunneling

Split tunnelling is a very useful feature of ExpressVPN. It’s available for Android and Windows. Premium VPNs offer split-tunneling for Android and Windows. ExpressVPN, however, is the only VPN that offers this feature for macOS users. ExpressVPN supports macOS 10.15 or lower.

Split-tunneling worked flawlessly every time I tried it. It was great when I used it to download torrents, make VoIP calls and access websites that were blocked in my area. Split-tunneling by ExpressVPN allowed me to download torrents much faster than if my traffic was routed through the VPN. I was also able to surf the internet using my local network and make VoIP phone calls.

Split-tunneling using ExpressVPN worked for me. It was easy to use on my Samsung Galaxy, Windows PC and MacBook Pro. ExpressVPN doesn’t allow you to exclude websites or IP addresses from your VPN tunnel. ProtonVPN and other competitors, however, allow you to exclude web browsers and apps.

Split-tunneling is an excellent feature of ExpressVPN. It allows you to send traffic simultaneously over your VPN and to your local network. However, users can only add or delete specific apps. This feature works well for Mac users and is simple to use.

Built-in Speed Test

ExpressVPN’s speed testing feature allows you quickly to test ExpressVPN servers to determine which one is fastest for your location. This tool also ranks servers by latency (how long it takes for your device to connect to the VPN server) and download speed. This feature is available for Windows and macOS.

ExpressVPN’s speed testing proved to be very accurate in my testing. ExpressVPN’s top-recommended Server was tested against lower-ranking Servers. The fastest server recommended by ExpressVPN was always the top.

This feature allows you choose the fastest server every time you use VPN. This feature isn’t available with most VPN providers. CyberGhost VPN is the closest to this feature, which allows you see how each server performs.

ExpressVPN’s speed-testing feature is excellent. Speed tests are simple to run and you don’t have to use any third party to get the results. It is also accurate, and it’s not offered by any other VPN providers.

Support for Tor Traffic

ExpressVPN servers are capable of handling traffic from The Onion Router (Tor). There is no need to activate any option. After connecting to ExpressVPN, you can immediately use Tor browser.

Many VPNs that support Tor Over VPN offer dedicated servers for Tor traffic. ExpressVPN allows Tor to be used on any server you choose.

ExpressVPN has an.onion version of its official website that allows users to remain anonymous while purchasing a subscription. ExpressVPN is available for users who reside in countries with strict internet censorship.

A VPN that uses Tor can slow down internet speeds. The VPN adds an additional layer of encryption to slow down the internet connection. This feature took websites longer to load (over 10-15 seconds), and I experienced a 70-80% slowdown relative to my normal internet speed.

ExpressVPN is highly recommended for those who use.onion sites and wish to avoid leaks when using Tor’s network. To access Tor’s network, however, you will need to download Tor browser. You can browse.onion domains with browsers like Opera and Chrome, which is what ProtonVPN offers. This may make it easier for some users.

ExpressVPN Privacy & Security

ExpressVPN follows a no-logs policy

It does not track your IP address, visit sites, or download files. ExpressVPN’s Privacy Statement states clearly that it does not log your IP address, which sites you visit, or what files you download.

Multiple independent audits have been conducted on ExpressVPN to verify its no-logs policy. This is something that I love. Cure53, a cybersecurity company, reviewed ExpressVPN’s Chrome extension in 2018. ExpressVPN’s Chrome extension was reviewed by Cure53, a cybersecurity firm. It was found to be compliant with all major security and privacy standards. A year later, auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) confirmed ExpressVPN was in compliance with its Privacy Policy and that user data is erased each time a server is rebooted (with its TrustedServer technology).ExpressVPN’s headquarters is in British Virgin Islands (BVI). ExpressVPN doesn’t have any mandatory data retention laws in BVI. This is a good thing. The BVI High Court can’t order ExpressVPN to share user data. ExpressVPN doesn’t log data, so there would not be any information to hand over. The BVI is not part of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances which are a group of countries that share intelligence data.

ExpressVPN Speed & Performance

I ran dozens of speed tests with ExpressVPN servers connected to find the average VPN speed. The fastest VPN speed I experienced was when I connected to a VPN server in Romania. However, it was very fast when I used remote servers from the USA and Australia.

I started my speed tests without connecting to ExpressVPN in order to get a baseline speed.

Next I used ExpressVPN’s Smart Location feature (I was connected to a server in Romania) and was able to surf the internet and view content without any delays.

Finally, I tried an Australian server. Surprisingly, the Australian server was quicker than the US server when it came to upload and download speeds. The streaming speed on the US server was slower, but I could stream HD content. Sometimes it would default to SD quality for 4-5 seconds before switching over to HD. YouTube loaded my 1080p videos immediately, while the 4K videos took only a few seconds. The download time for a 70GB torrent file took less than two hours. This is a very fast download.

To determine which protocol offers the fastest speeds, I did speed tests with both OpenVPN and Lightway. Lightway was also tested on an Australian server and a Romanian one. OpenVPN speeds on the Romanian servers were 53% slower than when I used Lightway. OpenVPN speeds on Australia’s server were 75% faster than when I used Lightway. So I asked my American colleague for speed tests.

The speed test was the first time he used ExpressVPN.

My colleague then connected to a New York server via Smart Location. Connecting to ExpressVPN in New York, he experienced the same result as me. He didn’t notice any differences in streaming or browsing the internet.

He connected to an English server. Although his ping spiked, his download speed fell by 15%. This is very impressive. This is very good. He was able to download torrents quickly and had no issues on two separate calls.

For his speed test, my colleague connected to an Australian server. This server was the closest to his location. The fact that he connected with an Australian server (which took just 2-3 seconds to load) did not affect his internet browsing speed. He was also able to stream HD video in less than 5 seconds. HD video lasted for 5 seconds.

ExpressVPN is the fastest VPN in. I was able to stream content from multiple websites in HD quality during my testing. It took only a few seconds to download movies when I was connected from distant servers.

ExpressVPN Servers and IP Addresses

ExpressVPN hosts more than 3,000 servers in 160 countries.

This vast server network will enable you to locate servers close to you, regardless of where you live. ExpressVPN should show server load percentages like CyberGhost VPN. This will let you see how many people have connected to a server prior to connecting to it.

ExpressVPN servers support P2P traffic. It is much easier to find a server close to you to speed up your downloads. ProtonVPN allows only certain servers to P2P. ExpressVPN servers support obfuscation which is much more convenient than selecting from a restricted list.

ExpressVPN servers are mostly physically located servers. These servers are usually located in the country where you connect, and often offer faster speeds. ExpressVPN uses virtual servers, which are located in different countries than the country you connect to. It’s nice that ExpressVPN makes it clear where its virtual servers are located . ExpressVPN’s virtual server locations are routed through Hong Kong and the Netherlands.

ExpressVPN servers use shared IP Addresses which allows you to share your IP address across multiple users. This is good for privacy because your traffic will be mixed in with other users’ data. ExpressVPN currently does not offer dedicated IP addresses. CyberGhost VPN and Private Internet Access offer dedicated IP addresses for an additional fee. PrivateVPN offers dedicated IP addresses with specific protocols.

ExpressVPN offers P2P traffic support on many of its servers all over the world. ExpressVPN has physical servers in all locations. Each user is assigned one of the shared IP addresses.

ExpressVPN Streaming & Torrenting

ExpressionVPN is compatible to all streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.

ExpressVPN protects against IPv6 leaks and WebRTC attacks. Before I began torrenting, I ran 10 tests with ExpressVPN’s leak testing tool and with a third-party service. I didn’t have any leaks in either direction.

iOS

The ExpressVPN iOS app looks very similar to the Android app. Split-tunneling does not exist in the iOS app. I don’t believe any VPN offers split tunnelling on iOS. There is also no Lightway protocol. It does support L2TP and IKEv2 protocols.

ExpressVPN iOS app doesn’t include a kill button. An auto-reconnect setting can be used to reconnect your device to the VPN if you lose your connection. This is the best choice.

ExpressVPN’s iOS app is well-designed. The app doesn’t have a kill button. ExpressVPN’s iOS app is a great option, but it has a downside. The app is simple to use and has excellent security features.

Windows/Mac (Desktop)

ExpressVPN was installed on my MacBook Pro, Windows 10 PC. Just like mobile apps, you can also connect with the Smart Location and the most recent servers.

To view server locations, click on the menu icon and to access the Option menu. ExpressVPN also offers speed testing and support.

The Options menu contains advanced settings, protocols options, security features, and many other options. ExpressVPN allows you to customize your VPN. However, it makes it simple to set the required functions to the default settings. You don’t have to manually enable or disable them.

ExpressVPN is also the only VPN to offer split-tunneling for macOS. It is available only for macOS 10.15 or below. This feature is currently not available for macOS 11.0.

ExpressVPN’s desktop applications are outstanding. ExpressVPN’s Windows apps and macOS apps almost match each other. ExpressVPN offers split-tunneling for macOS 10.15 and lower, which is a departure from many other competitors.

ExpressVPN Apps – Is ExpressVPN easy to use?

The expressVPN apps are very easy to use.

The apps share most of the same features with some exceptions. Split-tunneling is not available in the iOS app. The Android app supports the L2TP protocol and IKEv2. Split-tunneling is only supported by macOS 10.15 or lower. Both apps work as expected and are nearly identical.
