BullGuard is an advanced anti-malware protection system that includes some useful extra features and a game booster to boost gaming performance.

BullGuard is a top anti-malware scanner. It uses a combination of dynamic machine-learning and a database that contains malware to identify and block known and zero-day threats.

BullGuard provides a range of security features, including:

  • Network scanner & Firewall.
  • Game booster & PC tune-up.
  • Parental control.
  • Secure Browser.
  • ID protection to the United States, Canada and Western Europe.
  • A virtual private network can be purchased separately.

BullGuard identity theft protection is something I love. Experian’s global monitoring database is used to monitor a variety of personally identifiable information (PII), such as credit card numbers and home addresses, email addresses and driver’s license numbers.

BullGuard’s features are not all that I love. For example, parental controls need to be improved and VPN settings can be difficult to find under drop-downs. BullGuard doesn’t offer an iOS app. BullGuard’s macOS app is not my favorite. It only has a virus scanner, but it isn’t very user-friendly.

BullGuard is a great protection against trojan sites, malware and network attacks, even though it has its limitations. Additionally, it offers helpful performance-enhancing features. BullGuard’s plans have a reasonable cost and come with a 30-day no-risk money-back guarantee.

BullGuard, a Windows antivirus, has all the features that I need in 2022.

BullGuard’s features could be a big boost to your cybersecurity protections. They are easy to use and intuitively designed.

BullGuard’s Mac App is missing many of the features that make its Windows app so great. This is my main complaint. BullGuard’s iOS app is great for protecting Android and Windows phones.

BullGuard Security Features

Virus scanner

BullGuard’s virus scanner has been rated the best available. The machine-learning engine analyses file behavior to detect zero-day threats and rootkits. Rootkits can be fooled by traditional malware scanners.

BullGuard offers 3 scan options

  • Quick scan. This scans all areas of your system that are vulnerable to viruses, such as temporary files and running programs.
  • Full Scan Checks the entire disk.
  • Scans are customizable. Scans scan a single file or folder, or a particular location on a disk.

To test the files, I downloaded 997 malware samples to my computer. It contained viruses, trojans, worms, ransomware, spyware, and rootkits. It contained keyloggers rootkits rootkits cryptojackers, trojans worms ransomware and spyware.

Then I ran BullGuard Quick Scan. It took less time than other antiviruses (Bitdefender took approximately 5 minutes to complete span>

BullGuard recommended that I run a Full Scan in order to confirm the detection. It found all malware files on my computer, ransomware files and zipped malware.

However, both BullGuard’s scanners caused a substantial CPU drain. After one of the scans crashed, I had to restart my computer. Bitdefender and cloud-based scanners such as BullGuard didn’t use much CPU power during my testing. This allowed me to use my devices even during full disk check.

BullGuard was capable of scheduling scans in such a way as to not affect my system’s performance. BullGuard did a Full Scan twice daily at 3:00 AM, when I wasn’t using my computer.

BullGuard is a great malware scanner. It detects malware almost as fast and efficiently than the top-ranked scanners. The scan speed was not as fast or as efficient as the ones I used. BullGuard still has my complete trust. I plan to continue using it until 2022 in order to protect my computers from all types of malware.

Real-Time Protection

BullGuard’s instant protection is excellent. It provides excellent anti-malware protection and runs in the background with almost no downtime. It scans all files you open before you open them. It also monitors the running processes to detect any malware files that may be downloaded or opened.

I attempted to download 997 malicious file to test the real-time security. BullGuard’s current-time protection blocked all 997 Malware samples files from being downloaded and flagged their activity so they can inflict further damage.

Advanced users have the ability to adjust BullGuard’s security level in the antivirus settings. I don’t recommend changing the real time protection settings. However, in my testing, I discovered that increasing the security level led to an increase in false positives and allowed some suspicious files to pass.

I was impressed by BullGuard’s 24/7 protection. It stopped me from downloading malicious malware files and stopped my computer from opening them before they could cause any harm to my computer.

Firewall

BullGuard firewall runs silently in the background. It monitors both outbound and inbound traffic, and protects against exploits and other threats. Man-in-the -middle attacks. Backdoor intrusions. Rootkits. Your firewall is always operational. It doesn’t matter if you open or change it.

BullGuard firewall detected all network intrusions that I tried to test. It also detected the intrusions that broke through Windows 10’s default firewall.

BullGuard’s default firewall settings are sufficient for most users. However, BullGuard offers customization options that can also be used by advanced users. There are 4 security options.

  • Set Rules. Tells BullGuard which programs can access the internet.
  • Logs. Logs traffic to and from your network.
  • Network Activity. Displays IP addresses for your network.
  • Settings. This allows users to block certain hosts and select which notifications they want to receive

BullGuard’s Network Activity function and Logs function keep track of all activity on your network. BullGuard firewall runs for most users. Bullguard sends security warnings to users. Users can simply allow the firewall to work and choose either “Allow” or “Block” when they become available.

BullGuard’s firewall offers excellent protection. I was able block all network intrusions. It is easy to use for most users. Advanced users have the ability to customize it.

Network Scanner

BullGuard network scan lists all devices connected to Wi Fi networks, and evaluates them for security issues.

BullGuard’s network scanner can tell you if there are open ports that could be exploited by hackers and if you cannot password-protect them. It can also tell you if your network is not secure.

The network scanner sends a notification to your network whenever a new device logs on to your network. This is especially useful if you suspect that someone is hijacking your Wi-Fi.

BullGuard gave me a list of all my devices along with information about their security settings. You can also view reports to compare the scans and see if any changes have occurred.

The network scanner is a useful feature that detects potential vulnerabilities in Wi-Fi networks and alerts users.

Tune-Up for PC

BullGuard’s PC tune-up provides 4 different performance-enhancing options.These are:

  • Optimize. Marks and deletes undesirable background processes and PUPs.
  • Cleanup assistant. Cleanup tool which indexes junk and gives graphic information about your computer.
  • Boot manager. Shows all apps running automatically at startup. Optimizes boot sequence.
  • Duplicate files. Quickly scan all drives for duplicates.

BullGuard’s system cleaning tools were very helpful. Cleanup Helper quickly scanned my 3TB hard drives, and removed 1.5GB of unnecessary data.

The PC Tune Up is an excellent feature that can free up gigabytes and speed up your computer.

Parental Control

BullGuard While there are many parental controls, only a few actually work.

BullGuard provides four main features that protect desktop users.

  • Filters. Blocks certain types of websites
  • Access. Limits device use to certain hours of each day or week
  • Apps. Some apps can be blocked by setting a password.
  • Privacy. Prevents keywords and data from being sent to web browsers.

BullGuard blocks many websites that offer pirated or pornographic content. BullGuard blocks a variety of websites that offer pirated programs or pornography. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

However, I was able to add dangerous sites to a blocked list and whitelist sites that BullGuard didn’t need to block.

Access allows you restrict internet access and device usage. However, I wish that certain applications could be restricted in time. Norton 360’s parental controls allow me to do that.

Privacy filters stop children from entering their credit card numbers online. It allowed me to input my credit card details into Amazon.com and Gmail.

BullGuard provides parental controls for Android users. These can all be managed online through BullGuard’s dashboard.

  • Send a message to your phone to start an anti-virus scanner.
  • Track your phone’s location.
  • Use to send commands to locate and wipe your phone.
  • View photos, monitor installed apps and view your child’s phone.

My mobile parental controls were too limited. I could check what apps are installed on my child’s phone and see which photos they have saved. Bitdefender and other parental control apps for mobile have the same functionality as the PC versions. However, your children cannot uninstall the apps or block them from accessing them. They can also block certain apps and websites.

BullGuard parental control options are very basic and offer functionality that is not restricted. BullGuard’s parental controls are also available.

Secure Browser

BullGuard secure browser tests to ensure that trusted domains are used by your browser. Secure browser prevents hijackers from stealing credit card information or passwords.

The secure browser blocks known phishing websites as well as those known for hosting malware scripts and files. You can check out our list for a safer browser than BullGuard.

BullGuard’s secure Web Browser is a great browser for security but not for everyday use.

Identity Protection

BullGuard’s ID Protection scans forums and credit bureaus looking for personal identifying information. It is still better than Norton, TotalAV or TotalAV which only offer ID theft protection to US users.

  • Store/membership cards.

  • International bank accounts

The dark web monitoring services only check email addresses against haveibeenpwned.com. This is BullGuard’s identity theft tool.

Premium Protection does not include BullGuard ID protection. However, it is a great value. Experian IdentityWorks is more expensive than BullGuard Premium and does not offer any other security features.

BullGuard VPN (Separate Purchase).

BullGuards VPN works fast and is secure. It works with Netflix and other streaming services. However, it is not yet available for purchase. It includes AES encryption of 256 bits and a no-logs policy. A kill switch will also cut your internet connection if it goes down.

BullGuard VPN has servers in 16 countries. Antivirus VPNs such as Norton Secure VPN can be found in more than 30 countries, while standalone VPNs such as ExpressVPN are available in over 90 countries.

BullGuard VPN has very fast speeds. It didn’t slow down or cause lags. However there was noticeable speed drops when I was connected remotely. This is normal. I was also able view video with minimal buffering.

As you can see in the above photos, my internet speed was not affected by connecting to a local host. However, I was able to download faster from Australia’s remote server. My ping was significantly higher when streaming or browsing. It took pages and videos about 15 seconds to load.

BullGuard makes it easy for you to stream streaming services such as Netflix.

BullGuard VPN can be purchased separately from BullGuard antivirus plans at a similar price to standalone VPN competitors.

BullGuard VPN is my favorite antivirus VPN. It’s hard to justify spending more for a standalone VPN with more servers and more features, but it is worth it.

Additional Features

BullGuard offers a few additional features, such as

  • Vulnerability scanner. This will identify vulnerabilities on your computer such as pending Windows updates or unsigned drivers.
  • Cloud backup. You can save photos, documents, and music to Google Drive. DropBox. OneDrive.

BullGuard’s vulnerability scanner can be very helpful. Unpatched vulnerabilities are one of the main vectors of malware infiltration. It’s always a good idea to have an additional layer of protection for your software.

Cloud backup tools are only available to users who have already signed up for a cloud-backup provider. BullGuard does NOT require this subscription. Each cloud backup service has its own app.

BullGuard’s interface is not the most attractive. It is difficult to use and packs too many features in a small space. Some of the most important settings are hidden behind dropdown menus.

Scheduling scans can, for example, be more complex than they need to be.

Here’s how to schedule a scan: First, click on the Antivirus tab. Then click “Settings.” “

I then had to go into the antivirus settings and click on Manage Profiles.

Then, I was taken to another window that allowed me to personalize the scans and set up scheduling.

The interface doesn’t work as well as it should. BullGuard’s interface can be confusing and clunky, especially considering that Norton and Kaspersky offer more intuitive software.

BullGuard installation takes only a few clicks. After creating an account, the virus definitions are automatically updated so that you can start a scan immediately.

BullGuard Mobile App

BullGuard Android Security Premium includes an excellent Android security app. Premium protection includes Internet Security.

iOS doesn’t have an app. We do recommend our top iOS internet security apps.

BullGuard’s Android App has many useful features.

  • Mobile malware scanner.
  • Anti theft protection.
  • Parental control. This includes call monitoring and location tracking.
  • Cloud backup. Sends emails, calendars, and contacts to an encrypted server.

I tested the Android application using my Huawei P30 Lite. It is very easy to find the features and the design is fantastic.

The mobile app also has excellent anti-theft features that can be connected with BullGuard’s mobile security manager (BullGuard’s online dashboard).

I granted permission for the anti-theft tools to locate and wipe my device.

BullGuard located my phone and pinpointed where I was. It was amazing!

I was unable to find a way to lock my device using the web app. Bitdefender and other security companies allow remote locking of devices.

BullGuard’s mobile app works great overall. Both the theft protection and antivirus scanner were excellent. BullGuard worked well on my Android and it was responsive and fast.

I spoke with the operator via live chat and tried the email support (available only for Chinese + languages above) but was not able to get a response within four days. BullGuard’s chat support is extremely prompt. BullGuard’s email support is not something I believe to be useful.

To schedule an appointment, I called and got live help within one hour. He took control of my computer and ran a thorough malware scan. The agent found the hidden test files and charged an additional $3 per month. It costs $3 more per month.

Forums are also a great place to ask questions and receive help. Instead, I received a response from BullGuard customer support within less than an hours.

I was impressed with BullGuard’s customer service.
