Kaspersky — Antivirus with Good Parental Controls and a Decent VPN for Streaming 2022

Kaspersky provides a great antivirus scanner with real-time antimalware Protection. It captured all of my malware samples.

There is a host of other protections.

Kasperskys features can be quite enjoyable, but they aren’t the best. Dropbox offers only 2GB storage. This is not worth it.

Kaspersky Total Security is an excellent internet security system. Kaspersky shifted its data processing centres from the USA to Switzerland after Russian intelligence was accused of stealing US data. Transparency Centers were also opened throughout the world.

Kaspersky provides three pricing options to cover between 3-10 devices. The plan comes with a 30 day refund policy and a great discount for the first year (14 days for UK customers span>).

Kaspersky provides a powerful antivirus scan and tons of other features that will increase your online security.

Kaspersky’s interface for is extremely simple. It’s a great option for those with little technical knowledge.

Kaspersky, an affordable option for antiviruses is also available. They offer competitive payment plans with low prices and include a 30-day refund policy.

Kaspersky Security Features

Antivirus Engine

Kaspersky uses both a cloud and virus scanner to detect malicious files.

Top antivirus products like McAfee/Novaty, Bitdefender and McAfee combine machine learning with signature databases to detect malware. Kaspersky also detected 100% of all malware samples that I tested.

Kaspersky offers 5 distinct types of virus scanning

• Quick Scan. Quick scans of the system startup file and system memory file. Also, check for bootsectors.
• Full-Scan. We will scan every folder and partition of your system.
• Selective Scan. This allows you to scan any drive, file, or folder.
• Scanning removable drives is possible with this program. USB sticks, portable hard drives).
• Vulnerability scanning. Checks your system for potential vulnerabilities. This includes software that’s out of date and software that could be vulnerable to malware.

Kaspersky offers several scan scheduling options. You can choose to scan at a certain time after application startup, or after every update.

To test Kaspersky’s security, I downloaded nearly 1000 pieces of test malware to my computer. To test Kaspersky, I installed nearly 1000 different types of malware on my computer. This is five times faster that it took!

Kaspersky Quick Scan didn’t find all the malicious codes I had hidden in my system. This was expected as it scans important areas only, such those loaded when your OS begins.

Kaspersky suggested to me that I run a full scan in order for my whole system to be examined.

Bitdefender had a 1-hour scan time. It took only 45 mins to complete the “Full Scan”. Kaspersky’s scan result was excellent — it found all malware on my system . I was able, however, to use it as normal.

Once the scan was done, I could see all detected malware files in “Quarantine”.

Kaspersky provides the option to recover files after they have already been deleted.

Kaspersky is unable to remove any malware detected if the scan was cancelled before the deadline. Kaspersky may warn you several times to cancel the scan before the deadline.

Next Kaspersky was tested for instant protection. This silently scans all apps on your phone and checks for viruses against Kaspersky.

My tests proved that real-time defense performed flawlessly. It immediately blocked all the malicious software I tried to upload to my computer.

After running a ransomware simulator, it failed lock any files. The program was stopped by Kaspersky real-time protection.

Finally, I used “Vulnerability Check”, a tool that identifies unsecure software which could be exploited and abused by hackers.

Although I only discovered two instances of old software on my computer, the vulnerability scan was thorough and detailed. This included information about hackers exploiting the vulnerability.

Overall, Kaspersky antivirus engine is very strong. It can detect viruses 100% accurately and offers multiple scans.

Protection for the Web

Kaspersky Web Protection features, combined with Kaspersky Privacy, identify and block malicious and fraudulent URLs.

Web Anti-Virus identifies suspicious websites and compares them against a malicious web address database. It also employs Heuristic Analysis to identify suspicious behaviour.

Kaspersky Protection browser Extension (which is included with the program) also detects malicious links. It blocks tracking, marks sites as safe/unsafe, blocks advertisements, and gives users access to virtual keyboards.

This extension was installed on Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox Firefox, Google Chrome and Google Chrome. Several known malicious websites were blocked by Kaspersky.

Kaspersky was able to detect all of my test links, however Bitdefender and Norton performed better.

Kaspersky Protection’s Tracking Blocker prevents social media tracking and web analytics. The anti-tracking option can also track ads agencies. However, users can opt to allow data to be collected for specific websites. Kaspersky should ask users if they feel the extension is working properly.

A virtual keyboard can also be opened via the browser extension. Panda Dome’s doesn’t offer one, but it does work well. Kaspersky gives you extra protection from keyloggers.

Kaspersky’s keyboard can be used with Safe Money. It loads much faster that Kaspersky’s Safe Money.

Kaspersky Web Protection is excellent. Kaspersky was able to find most of the phishing websites I tested. Kaspersky’s anti-tracking, ad blocker, and virtual keyboard is also very good.

System Cleanup Tools

Kaspersky makes a number of tools to clean your computer, including the Unused Data Cleaner and Privacy Cleaner.

Kaspersky’s software cleaner searches your computer for browser extensions, programs and programs that you are not using often.

I tried the Windows 10 PC Cleaner. It took me just 2 minutes. The results were stunning.

I was offered the choice to delete, ignore, and perform a Google-search to find out more about each program.

Kaspersky’s PC cleaner lets users choose which apps they want to be cleaned. This includes apps that have banners or apps that you have not agreed to.

Kaspersky’s unused data cleaner scans files from the Recycle Bin. The scan revealed many files.

The Privacy cleaner clears your browser history.

Kaspersky provides good system cleanup and optimization tools. However, I would like to see Kaspersky include more system optimization tools. Sophos is one example of an antivirus that does not provide system cleanup tools.

Kasperskys system cleanup tool allows you to quickly get rid or unutilized documents as well as any trace of your online activity.

Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Kaspersky provides a free VPN service with all of its plans. It is limited to 200MB per day. The VPN limits your browsing data to 200MB daily.

Kaspersky has a premium service for VPN:

• Unlimited browsing data. No data limits daily.
• Kill button. When VPN connection is lost or damaged, data transfer may be stopped
• Smart Protection. Smart Protection automatically launches the VPN whenever you connect to a computer network.
• Servers can be found in 25+ cities. Customers can connect any server, including the most powerful.

To find out how each premium VPN performs in speed testing, I created speed tests with both the VPN disabled and the VPN enabled.

As you can see, the free VPN was able to allow me to download at normal speed. Actually, it increased. However, when I tried uploading files onto P2P networks, this was particularly noticeable.

Premium VPN caused my upload speed slow. My upload speed was much slower when I used premium VPN.

Kaspersky’s premiumVPN can also work with streaming services, such as Netflix.

The free VPN may be slow, but the premium version has decent speeds across the globe.

Password Manager

Kaspersky’s Password Manager secures all passwords using 256-bit AES encryption.

Kaspersky’s password managers free edition lets 15 passwords be stored. Kaspersky’s password manager is free and allows you to store up to 15 passwords.

Kaspersky’s software for password management must be separately downloaded from antivirus. Kaspersky’s password manager software must be downloaded separately to antivirus. Kaspersky also offers emergency access and account recovery options. LastPass also provides these features.

Once you have imported your passwords, you must install a browser Extension. Kaspersky has autosave/autofill capabilities that allow you to save passwords automatically and then autofill them. I tested this feature on Safari and Chrome Firefox Yandex Edge Safari. Mobile is not supported.

Kaspersky’s password repository makes it easy to find your passwords. Kaspersky allows password holders to arrange their passwords into as little as three folders.

Kaspersky provides password generators that you can access using the browser extension, or the app. Password generators such as LastPass, LastPass, or cannot create passwords that are difficult to remember.

Kaspersky has fewer features than other standalone password management software, including two-factor authorization (2FA), auto password changers and encrypted cloud storage.

Kaspersky is a basic password management tool.

Parental Controls

Kaspersky provides parental controls (Safe Kids), that can be used to safeguard your children online.

Parental controls can also be downloaded as an independent application. It also includes a tutorial about how to talk about internet security with your kids.

• Content filtering site and application.
• Social networking monitoring (Facebook & VK).
• GPS Location Tracking (Android, iOS only).

I was also able to set up weekly computer schedules and had the option of removing the test machines from the schedule after the time limit was reached.

Kaspersky also has content filters that work well. Safe Search allows me to restrict sites by category, and also allow for exclusions. This feature is available across all major browsers, including Google and Yahoo as well as Bing and YouTube.

You can also block certain apps by categories, which are not accessible for iOS, or entertainment apps like apps.

I tested the GPS and Place Tracking features on my Android device. They were able accurately track my location and send alerts to my phone if it leaves the designated safe zones.

Kaspersky Safe Kids also offers social network monitoring. It is very refreshing. Kaspersky Safe Kids offers parental controls that are not offered by other antiviruses.

Kaspersky parental controls include the most comprehensive. Kaspersky also provides guidance on talking to children about parental restrictions.

Additional Features

Kaspersky also includes several tools like

• Webcam protection.
• Backup, Restore.
• Rescue Disc.
• Data encryption & shredder.
• Gaming mode.

The webcam protector alerted me when I accessed any App that used my laptop’s webcam. Bitdefender offers microphone protection and webcam protection.

Backup and Restore allows users to store backups to a removable hard disk or an online cloud storage. You have two options. Either use Dropbox (default), OR connect Kaspersky to another service. But this feature doesn’t add much value. Dropbox offers 2GB storage for all users. Kaspersky also offers backup options. Norton is superior and offers more storage without paying an additional fee.

Kaspersky Rescue Disc offers a useful feature. This feature allows you wipe out infected machines immediately. After that, use the Rescue Disc to disinfect your computer. This feature is also offered by Panda, ESET, Panda, and Panda.

Data Encryption is a method to ensure that sensitive files remain safe and secure. Data Shader allows permanent deletion.

Gaming mode can pause notifications as well as scans, while you are gaming. It also allows you to view full-screen apps. This game booster improves gameplay performance.

Kaspersky offers an excellent range of additional tools. Kaspersky’s additional tools are excellent.

Kaspersky’s extras make a great addition to antiviruses that only offer basic protection against viruses. Kaspersky’s Backup and Restore doesn’t seem very useful, but I do like the Rescue Disc functionality for saving severely infected computer systems.

Pricing for Kaspersky Plans

Kaspersky offers three packages. These are very affordable considering how many features each one contains.

Kaspersky Internet Security allows you to choose whether to protect 3, 5,, or 10, Windows computers.

Kaspersky’s Setup and Use is Easier

Kaspersky installation and configuration are easy.

Kaspersky’s user-interface looks professional. Kaspersky provides basic antivirus features.

Kaspersky will only display the features you have. Kaspersky only shows the features that you have.

Kaspersky has some difficult tools to find. To use Kaspersky PC Cleaner, click “More Tools”, Clean up and Optimize, and then “PC Cleaner”. I would like to see a sidebar, similar to the one used at TotalAV.

The Notification Center can be accessed via the main Kaspersky Window. It allows you to access important information and make decisions.

The Notification Center makes things easy by allowing you to toggle the appropriate functions on and off. Kaspersky enables you to quickly solve security issues by not leaving your Notification Center.

Kaspersky’s layout takes some getting used too. However, it is quite easy to navigate once you get the hang of it.

Kaspersky Mobile App

Kaspersky’s Android internet security application is complete. Android users however, have limited access to the basic security features like parental controls, password managers, and VPN.

Security Cloud iOS

• Adaptive Security Modifies configurations based upon user behavior.
• Security in place. iOS security improvements. Jailbreaking an example.
• Account check. Checks your email for data breaches.

It comes with a QR scanner.

Android offers many other features. I found the Android app to work well on my Huawei Mate 30 Lite.

Kaspersky’s Android smartphone application has:

• Antivirus scanner.
• Call breaker.
• Anti-theft.
• Real-time protection.
• App lock.
• Anti-smishing (SMS phishing).
• Protection using browsing.

It’s easy to launch the antivirus scanner within the program.

• Quick scan. Scan downloaded apps for malware.
• Run the complete scan. Examine all devices to detect malware.
• Folder scan. Scanning an individual folder.

A scan of my phone revealed 80 malware.

Kaspersky detected all malware files in 5 minutes. It automatically quarantined each file.

The app’s “real-time protection” worked well. Norton Mobile Security App Advisor I think is better. These apps can alert you to potential dangers even before you actually download them.

Kaspersky spotted the dangers associated with app downloads. He quarantined them as soon as possible, keeping me safe.

Kaspersky’s mobile app offers anti-theft protection. To make it happen, you need to create a Kaspersky account.

Logging to My Kaspersky Online Hub, you will have access to four anti-theft options, including the possibility to lock or wipe your device, sound an alert and take photos of the person who is using it.
