CyberGhost VPN Features

CyberGhost VPN provides all the security features I would expect from a premium VPN.

CyberGhost allows you to connect to up seven devices simultaneously. This is more than rivals TunnelBear or ExpressVPN, which only allow five devices.

CyberGhost VPN supports three VPN protocols: OpenVPN, IKEv2 and WireGuard. Tunnelblick is a third party application that allows you add OpenVPN macOS. This can prove difficult for non-technical users.

CyberGhost VPN offers built-in protection against DNS and WebRTC leaks. CyberGhost doesn’t support IPv6.

Split-tunneling

The Android version of CyberGhost VPN has split tunnelling (known as App Split Tunnel). This feature allows you to choose which apps will be routed through the VPN and which apps will be sent through your local network.I tested CyberGhost’s split-tunneling feature by disconnecting my mobile banking app and routing all other apps through it. It worked exactly as I expected. It worked with both VPN-connected and regular internet apps.CyberGhost VPN’s Android split-tuning is very similar to ExpressVPN. However, it also excludes apps. ProtonVPN’s split Tunneling tool is superior. You can exclude IP addresses and apps. It also allows you to obtain the IP address for any website, which will allow you to exclude them from your VPN tunnel.

CyberGhost VPN doesn’t offer split tunnelling. However, the Smart Rules section contains an Exceptions tool which allows you to choose which websites you don’t want to be routed through it. I was able to see a much faster connection when I removed Netflix from the test network.

Split tunneling is a feature of CyberGhost VPN that allows you to route specific apps through your local network. CyberGhost VPN should have a full-featured split tunneling tool that works with Windows, instead of just the exceptions function.

Smart Rules

CyberGhost’s Smart Rules feature, which is only available on Mac and Windows, allows you to personalize your VPN preferences. CyberGhost settings can be easily changed. To activate or disable a function, toggle a button. There are four types of Smart Rules. Each category offers different options to set up privacy and security functions.

• CyberGhost launch guidelines. Email or social media will open automatically.
• Wi Fi protection. CyberGhost VPN allows you to choose to launch the VPN connection when connecting with a secure, unsecure or saved Wi Fi network.
• Excclusions. To make exceptions you will need OpenVPN.
• App rules. CyberGhost can be set up to automatically connect to a server when you open an application.

Although there are many VPNs which allow you to disable/enable specific functions manually, I don’t know of any VPN that gives as much control over them as CyberGhost’s Smart Rules.

NoSpy Servers

CyberGhost’s NoSpy servers provide more security and speed that CyberGhost’s regular server.

CyberGhost claims that NoSpy servers have dedicated links and are made from premium hardware. This makes them faster than other servers.

CyberGhost VPN headquarters is located in Romania and houses NoSpy servers. CyberGhost staff manage them. They are therefore less susceptible to attacks than remote servers.

CyberGhost VPN’s NoSpy server provides additional security and speed.

CyberGhost VPN Speed & Performance

My speed tests of CyberGhost VPN servers have been conducted. The majority of the servers were extremely fast for streaming, gaming, and general browsing.

I had the fastest speeds when I was connected to a US server (my place). I was also able to connect to remote countries such as Australia with good speeds.

I ran a speed test using my own internet connection, and not connected to CyberGhost VPN servers to establish a baseline internet speed.

Next, I connected using CyberGhost’s Quick Connect feature. My download speed dropped to 4% This was a big improvement over when I used to stream videos and play online games. Skype calls were also possible.

CyberGhost VPN is extremely fast. It can even slow down when connecting to distant servers such as Australia. My connection was fast and there wasn’t a single slowdown.

CyberGhost VPN Servers and IP Addresses

CyberGhost offers 7,400+ servers in 90+ countries . Although some VPNs might have more servers (HMA has servers in over 200 countries and territories), CyberGhost should be able to locate a CyberGhost server near you.

CyberGhost VPN servers are mainly physical servers. This means the server is physically located in the country you are connecting to. CyberGhost has virtual servers in 29 countries. This allows you to have an Internet address in the country you are connecting from, but the server is located in another country. Virtual servers can be used.

CyberGhost offers dedicated servers for streaming and gaming. CyberGhost VPN has dedicated servers for streaming and gaming.

CyberGhost VPN uses shared IPs. This is a great thing as you can share the same IP address (or more) with many other users. CyberGhost VPN allows you to buy a unique IP address that is yours only.

Even though I was located in the US, Netflix blocked my access to a regular CyberGhost US Server. However, I was able to use a Netflix-optimized CyberGhost Server immediately. I was able watch full HD documentaries and shows without any issues.
