The ESET scan options I tried on my machine worked flawlessly.

These scans are called ESET scans.

  • Scan. Scans all files in your computer’s system.
  • Custom scan. Scans individual files and directories.
  • Removable devices Scan. Scans flash disks and external hard drives.

I have hidden almost 1000 malware samples on my computer, as well as in removable devices to test each of the scan options. It is as effective or more than antiviruses like Bitdefender, Norton and others.

The Custom Scan detected almost all of my malware samples, and the Removable Device Scan identified all malware threats hiding on my USB stick.

All three ESET scans were lightweight, and I didn’t notice any system speed drops. However, the whole scan took 6 hours. It’s slower than Norton and Avira. Norton’s system scan took approximately 6 hours.

ESET’s system scanning is slow as it scans areas where other antiviruses cannot. This includes your operating memories and WMI repository (Windows only). ESET’s system scanning is designed to scan the most important areas of your device and firmware. This will make it easy for users who are looking for greater protection.

ESET doesn’t offer a quick scan which was disappointing. It scans important locations in less than 2 minutes.

Sometimes scheduling scans with the ESET program can be confusing.

ESET also provides a Host Intrusion Prevention System. This scans your computer for rootkits, ransomware, and other threats. ESET stopped it from encrypting files.

ESET is a reliable antivirus that protects against malware. ESET can be slow to scan your computer and doesn’t offer quick scans. It also has slow scheduling.

PhishTank keeps track online of hundreds of new Phishing web sites each day. It was my test tool. I tried it out to verify the protection. ESET blocked me from accessing any sites that are phishing, even those that Chrome didn’t detect.

ESET’s Anti-phishing Securitys were, however, a little too vigilant. ESET blocked websites listed on PhishTank. I was able manage to whitelist them but it did block others.

The firewall offers many filtering options. But, they are not all that helpful.

  • Automatic mode. There is no user interaction. Allows most outbound traffic traffic to flow without blocking any inbound.
  • Interactive mode. Provides the ability to block and allow connections that aren’t recognized.
  • Policy based mode. Does not allow connections unless the user has set a policy.
  • Learning mode. Automatically saves and tracks rules that are based on user activities.

ESET’s Automatic mode is the most preferred mode for most users. The Learning mode allows you to customize the firewall to your network preferences. The learning mode uses machine-learning technology to create firewall rules that suit your preferences.

Interactive mode was annoying for me. I got at least 10 in a 10-minute period. Bitdefender’s firewall detected unrecognized connections. A notice is displayed in the bottom corner. It’s possible to ignore it if your not busy.

ESET firewall performed exceptionally in my tests. It is able to protect your computer from network attack, but I recommend you stay in Automatic mode.

Network Inspector (Windows Only)

ESET Network Inspector scans all devices connected via Ethernet to your home networks. It can identify weak passwords and vulnerable ports.

Network inspector took 15 minutes to scan my network. This also showed whether any of the services were secured.

These insights may prove to be very valuable to more advanced users in identifying potential risks within their systems. The Running Processes gave my system safe scores but also made less-known apps unsafe. This shows that users should not rely on Running Processes if they don’t know how to recognize processes.

Logfiles however is a searchable database which allows you to view every activity ESET made on your device. It contains a list of malware detected on your system along with their threat names. This can be very useful for tech support.

View Activity lets you see how much data has been read and written.

This is a very basic program and I don’t think many users will ever use it. ESET can quickly clean up and restore Windows settings.

I turned off parental controls. I made a fake birthdate to ensure that the screening could filter content intended for 9-year-olds. Google Image searches did not filter my search.

ESET’s password managers protect passwords using 256bit encryption (the industry norm), offer multi-devicesynchronization and have good auto-fill/auto-save abilities, but nothing else. If you are looking for advanced tools like password auditing or data breach alerts, dark Web monitoring, and other features, then you should look into 1Password or Dashlane.

The Gamer Mode of the ESET antivirus program is very basic, yet very useful. ESET suspends all notifications when you are using full-screen programs. BullGuard is better for gaming and watching movies.

Secure Data is a control option for USB devices that makes it difficult for some users to access data on other media such as CD/DVD drives, SD cards readers, and USB devices. It took me 10 minutes to setup. But once it is done, it works great.

ESET’s secure internet browser was not my favorite. I didn’t like the spam filters. These programs already come with spam filters.

ESET offers three main pricing plans. They can be categorised as Essential, Advanced, and Ultimate.

ESET’s main product consists of Windows packages. Although the packages claim that they are compatible across all OSes, it’s not. Instead, you will be directed how to download the most compatible software for each OS. You will be directed to the appropriate software for each OS. Each plan has its own set of features.

Internet Security for Windows or Cyber Security for Mac is the mid-range plan. It’s slightly more expensive than TotalAV’s midrange Internet Security plans.

ESET’s plans only cover one device. For each additional device, an additional fee is added. This covers operating systems other that Windows. Internet Security is available for purchase on up to three devices. Licenses can either be used on a Mac or Android. Each OS will however provide the software package.

Although ESET costs per device are prohibitive for large families that share their internet security program, is still an option for anyone who needs coverage for just one or two devices.

ESET Essential NOD32 Antivirus Windows and Linux (Cyber Security Software for Mac)

ESET’s NoD32 antivirus is the most basic version of an antivirus program. It comes with the following features:

  • Anti-malware scanner.
  • Anti-phishing protection.
  • Ransomware detection.
  • Gaming mode.

Cyber Security Mac Version features the antimalware scan and antiphishing protection. The ransomware detectors and gamer modes don’t work with macOS.

NOD32Antivirus costs D911,980/year and is a low-cost antivirus. Avira however offers better packages and has more options.

HTML32Antivirus could be a great option for people who don’t need any extra protection or just want a basic anti-virus scanner.

ESET Advanced Internet Security for Windows (Cyber Security Pro Pro Mac)

ESET’s Internet Security comes at a cost of D1,140,000.030/annum. Although it comes with many features, it isn’t as cheap as other products that offer similar features or can detect malware (such as TotalAV span>).

Internet Securityincludes the Essential HTML3_ features:

  • Firewall.
  • Antispam.
  • Safe browser.
  • Parental control.
  • Webcam protection.
  • Advanced diagnostics Software.
  • System cleaner.
  • Network monitor.
  • Anti-theft protection.

Cyber Security Pro has similar features for Mac, but it only provides the firewall and parental control. Intego offers more advanced tools to help protect your Mac.

Internet Security from ESET, the main/Windows version. However, not all of the features are that great. But, it’s not the best antivirus program.

ESET Ultimate: Smart Security Plus for Windows

ESET Smart Security Premier only works with Windows users. However, you can only use the additional features of this plan on Windows. Smart Security Premium allows you to protect your Mac/Android with Smart Security Premium. Smart Security Premium will point users to the appropriate plans according to their OS: Cyber Security Pro Mac and Mobile Security Pro Android.

Starting at D1,368,080/year Smart Security Premier contains everything from the Internet Security bundle as well as 3 extra features: a password manager, device encryption, and LiveGuard – a cloud-based scanner which detects zero-day threats.

The password management software works well but it is lacking some key features .

The device encryption, and password manager are not as effective as those offered by other products. These works as well as ESET’s encryption feature.

LiveGuard mentioned above is a great option. Smart Security Premium, however, does not provide this feature. Avira Prime, another antivirus, offers similar functionality for no additional charge.

Smart Security Premier doesn’t offer much. Norton 360 and Bitdefender are two options to consider if you’re looking for an anti-virus suite.

ESET’s antivirus protection protects against malware automatically. You can change it however. This is especially frustrating because Avira, and other companies, offer scans that are fast and easy.

ESET is an antivirus that works reliably. It has some features that are complicated to set-up, and it is difficult for users without technical knowledge to use its more advanced features.

Mobile Security contains many important features of ESET, including:

  • Anti-theft protection.
  • Call filter.
  • Security report/audit.

These features function the same way on Android that the PC version ESET does on the PC. They also detect and block any malware on my phone. This included ransomware as well as spyware.

It was possible to log in to my computer’s online anti-theft system and locate my device within minutes. You can send messages to your mobile phone, but you cannot set it to sound an alarm or erase your data remotely.

ESET Mobile Safety showed important settings and permissions for my device, and alerted via push notification any problems. It also detected suspicious apps.

HTMLSET’s call filter lets you block unknown numbers. It can also be used to block specific numbers.

ESET’s app for mobile is excellent overall. ESET’s mobile app is quite good. However, it lacks some features that Norton and TotalAV have. This includes the password manager.

ESET support is available in English and Spanish. Norton, however, offers support in many other languages, such as English and Dutch as well Turkish, Arabic and Turkish.

I tried ESET’s email support. I received an answer that ESET had clearly copied and purged. I didn’t have a question. However, I would have liked a more personal reply.

ESET NOD32 offers the lowest price plan. It does not include antimalware engines. This makes it a good choice for anyone who is looking for an reliable antivirus scanner.

ESET’s most expensive plan, Smart Security Premium (the highest-tier plan), is not worth the upgrade. Norton or another antivirus software with better addons is better if you’re looking for a standalone password manager.

Intego doesn’t offer the best options for Mac users. Intego specifically caters to Macs.
