ExpressVPN — Best VPN for Streaming Movies & TV Shows in 2022

ExpressVPN VPN is a VPN that is fast, safe, intuitive, reliable, and cost-effective. Here are my reasons.

ExpressVPN provides excellent speeds and top-notch security. ExpressVPN offers over 3,000 servers in more than 94 countries.

ExpressVPN was able work with Netflix, all streaming sites and other websites that I tested. ExpressVPN supports torrenting. This can be used for bypassing firewalls in countries such Iran and China, which have internet censorship.

ExpressVPN has additional security features like 256-bit AES encryption or a kill switch.

• ExpressVPN claims they do not keep user data logs. These statements have been independently audited and confirmed by ExpressVPN.
• Split tunnelling: You can choose whether data is routed through the VPN server and through your local network.
• Obfuscation — Creates the appearance that you are surfing the web without a VPN. This allows you to bypass restrictions or censorship.
• Tor support This adds an extra layer of security for Tor’s network. Any Tor node cannot see your IP address

While I love ExpressVPN in general, I don’t like its iOS app.

ExpressVPN Lightway protocol support is not available. There is no kill switch. Split-tunneling isn’t available (but I don’t know of any VPN offering split tunnelling for iOS span> ExpressVPN has no ad-blocker.

ExpressVPN remains my favorite VPN service for 2022. It is reliable, fast, secure and packed with features across all platforms.

After spending several weeks researching and trying ExpressVPN, it’s the best VPN I have ever used.

While it’s not the most expensive VPN available, it provides a great deal. ExpressVPN’s 49% discount allows you to save even more on your subscription.

ExpressVPN Features

ExpressVPN offers these security features:

• AES encryption of256 bits The encryption that renders internet traffic inaccessible from all ends.
• This policy is not recorded.
• Network Lock kill Switch This feature prevents accidental leaks of data by shutting off internet traffic when it is disconnected from the VPN server

ExpressVPN’s servers use RAM memory. This means that the server’s RAM memory is in charge of all data.

ExpressVPN also offers its own DNS service on each server. This ensures third parties will not be able to query DNS and the server’s response speed will be quicker.

ExpressVPN has built-in protection from WebRTC, IPv6 & DNS leaks. ExpressVPN blocks IPv6 traffic automatically. This is much better than TunnelBear’s manual disabling of IPv6.

ExpressVPN has four protocols – OpenVPN UDP, IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec and UDP. IKEv2 and L2TP/IPSec are not available for Android.

ExpressVPN guarantees complete forward secrecy. This means that your encryption keys for encrypting or decrypting your internet traffic will be changed every 15 minutes or whenever you disconnect. Hackers are able to only see encrypted traffic and not any other traffic.

Split-Tunneling

ExpressVPN’s split-tunneling tool is extremely good. It is available for Android, Windows or macOS. ExpressVPN, however, is the only VPN to provide this feature for macOS.

Split-tunneling worked perfectly every time I tried. It worked great when I used it to download torrents, make VoIP calls, and access websites that were restricted in my country. I could also browse the internet using my local network and make VoIP phone calls.

Split-tunneling via ExpressVPN was a good option for me. It was easy to use on my Samsung Galaxy and Windows PC. ProtonVPN, a competitor, allows you to exclude apps and web browsers.

ExpressVPN’s split-tunneling feature allows you to send traffic through the VPN to your local network at the same time.

Built-in Speed Test

ExpressVPN’s speed tester feature allows users to quickly test ExpressVPN servers. It also rates servers by latency (how long a device takes to connect to the VPN server), as well as download speed. It is available for Windows as well as macOS.

ExpressVPN speed testing was very accurate during my testing. The speed of the top recommendation server was always faster.

ExpressVPN Privacy & Security

ExpressVPN abides by a no logs policy

It doesn’t track your IP address. It doesn’t even keep track of which sites you visit and what files are downloaded. ExpressVPN logs communications with support staff (to improve user experiences and monitor abusers).

ExpressVPN was subject to numerous independent audits to confirm its no logs policy. This is something I love. Cure53 (a cybersecurity firm) reviewed ExpressVPN’s Chrome Extension in 2018. It found that ExpressVPN met all major privacy and security standards. A year later, auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) confirmed ExpressVPN was in compliance with its Privacy Policy and that user data is erased each time a server is rebooted (with its TrustedServer technology).ExpressVPN’s headquarters is in British Virgin Islands (BVI). This is a good thing because ExpressVPN does not have mandatory data retention laws in the BVI. But, ExpressVPN cannot be ordered by the BVI High Court to share user data. ExpressVPN does NOT log data, so there would not be any information to turn.

Independently verified ExpressVPN’s transparent, no logs policy. Its headquarters is located in a country that respects privacy and is not part 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances.

ExpressVPN Speed & Performance

To determine the average speed of VPN connections, I performed dozens speed tests with ExpressVPN servers connected. The speed test showed that I was able to connect to remote servers in Australia and the USA at the fastest speed.

To establish a baseline speed, I disconnected from ExpressVPN and started my speed tests.

Next, ExpressVPN’s Smart location feature was used (I was connected to a server in Romania) and I was able browse the web and view the content without any delay.

I finally tried an Australian server. The download and upload speeds were faster than those of the US servers. But streaming HD content was still slower than that on the US server. YouTube sometimes defaulted to SD quality for around 4-5 seconds before switching back to HD. However, YouTube also downloaded a 70 GB torrent file in less than two hours. This is very fast.

Speed tests were conducted using OpenVPN (and Lightway), to find which protocol delivers the fastest speeds.

His first speed test was without ExpressVPN.

My colleague connected to a New York ExpressVPN Server using Smart Location. But he didn’t notice any difference when browsing the internet or streaming video.

He connected to an England server. However, his ping spiked and his download speed dropped only 15%. This is quite impressive. He had torrent download speeds of over 99% and no glitches when he called two different VoIP numbers.

My colleague connected with an Australian server to perform his speed test. The server was located near my colleague’s location. He connected to it for his speed test. He also streamed content (HD video loaded within 5 seconds and stayed HD for more than 5 minutes span>

During tests, I was able to stream at high speeds and have HD content loaded instantly. I was able to watch 4K videos on my PS4 without any buffering.

ExpressVPN can be used to torrent because it supports P2P traffic. I found qBittorrent the fastest.

ExpressVPN protects against IPv6 & WebRTC leaks. I experienced no leaks.

ExpressVPN: Bypassing Censorship

ExpressVPN can be more expensive that other top VPNs. However, it is a great choice because of its high speed, privacy features and security features.

ExpressVPN Mobile & Tablet Apps – Ease of use

ExpressVPN has apps for Android and iOS. Installation was quick and easy on my Samsung Galaxy and iPhone X.

Android

ExpressVPN Android application is user-friendly and features-rich.

Connect quickly to a VPN service using the Smartlocation tool. Tap on Smartlocation to view a complete list of locations.

WebRTC and IP leaks tests will be available under the Privacy & security Tooltab.

ExpressVPN’s Android client doesn’t include the Network Lock. The Network Lock is not available in ExpressVPN’s Android application. However, it can be activated “Block Internet” to prevent you from being unable to connect to VPN or reconnect. This works similarly to the ExpressVPN Speed Testing. ExpressVPN servers run at an extremely fast speed, so privacy-conscious customers won’t require Tor.

iOS

ExpressVPN iOS is similar to its Android app in design. However, it does offer the L2TP and IKEv2 protocols.

ExpressVPN iOS doesn’t have a kill switch or “Block Internet when it is impossible to reconnect or connect” option. Instead, an auto-reconnect setting will allow you to connect to the VPN. This is the best option.

ExpressVPN iOS application is extremely well designed. However, it doesn’t have an option to kill. ExpressVPN iOS app is a great choice. It is user-friendly and offers good security features.

Windows/Mac (Desktop)

ExpressVPN’s app was installed on my MacBook Pro & Windows 10 PC. Also, you can connect to the Smart Location as well as your most recent servers.

Click the menu icon to see server locations and the Option menu. ExpressVPN offers Speed Tests and Support.

ExpressVPN’s Options menu offers advanced settings and protocol options. This eliminates the need to activate or disable them manually.

ExpressVPN, the only VPN that supports split tunnelling on macOS, is also worth noting. This feature is not available on macOS 10.15 or lower. It is not yet available on macOS 11.0.

ExpressVPN’s desktop apps work almost exactly the same on both Windows and macOS. ExpressVPN offers split-tunneling for macOS 10.15 or less (unlike many of its competitors ).

ExpressVPN Apps Are They Easy To Use?

The ExpressVPN app can be used very easily.

Both apps share most of the same features with a few exceptions. The Android app supports both the L2TP and IKEv2 protocols. Only macOS version 10.15 or lower supports split tunnelling.
