Intego : Intego Antivirus Review and Prices 2022

Intego sells four different antivirus plans, focusing primarily on macOS antivirus software. Each comes with different utilities such as virus protection, Mac performance enhancements, parental controls and firewall. In September 2020, three Windows antivirus programs were added by the company.

Intego, which was founded in Paris, in 1997, has offices in Austin, Texas and Seattle. The company employs no more than 50 people. Kape Technologies, a U.K. cybersecurity provider, bought Intego in August 2018. Intego now has over 350 employees with offices in the U.K. (Israel, Germany), Romania, Cyprus and the Philippines). While Intego’s antivirus products are intended for consumers, it also sells two business-oriented anti-virus packages.

What Antivirus Software Does It Offer?

Intego sells four consumer macOS virus packages. Each package includes five different utilities.

• VirusBarrier X9 antivirus protection, also against Windows malware
• NetBarrier X9 network protection
• ContentBarrier X9 parental controls
• Mac Washing Machine X9 system optimizer
• Personal Backup is an automatic file backup

Each of the four Intego antivirus packages is available in multiyear/multidevice subscriptions in two configurations: one covering only macOS devices, and a second configuration that includes protection for a single Windows computer in addition to the indicated number of maximum macOS devices. In other terms, if Intego protects a maximum of 3 devices, the Windows PC would count as a 4th device. Intego is partnering with Panda Security in Spain, a cybersecurity company established in 1990 to provide virus protection for Windows devices.

There are two prices for each plan. One is the introductory price, and one is the renewal price.

Mac Internet Security X9 combines two Intego utilities: VirusBarrier X9 (network protection) and NetBarrier X9 firewall. Also, contains some Mac performance and private data protections.

Intego’s virtual private networking (VPN), is not yet available. Private Internet Access is its sister company and offers a VPN. Private Internet Access VPN works on all platforms, not just Intego’s.

Is Intego Antivirus Software Safe?

Macs can be protected with Intego antivirus. Its Windows-only antivirus software, Intego, is relatively new. This means that it has yet to be tested. It also offers fewer protections than rival Windows antivirus programs. Intego does NOT sell a separate VPN brand, but subscribers can add the premium VPN service to any subscription for $19.99/year. This VPN can only be used on Macs that run macOS 10.13.

How Long Does Intego Antivirus Software Expire?

Intego claims that it is better at targeting Mac malware, Phishing attempts, and other issues than well-known brands who protect both Windows computers and Macs. It claims its research team “frequently discovers and defends against new Mac malware” and is “always highly focussed on finding Mac malware threats.” According to Intego it typically updates its macOS security database multiple times per day or “as often and as necessary”. Intego’s anti-virus software can be set to run automatic updates, whether they are daily, weekly, monthly or annual. It will also install and filter antivirus definitions and filters and automatically update itself.

How Do I Disable Intego Antivirus Software?

Antivirus functions in Intego include real-time protection against malware. Software toggle switches allow for temporary disablement of scheduled antivirus scans, periodic software updates, and the firewall.

How do I uninstall Intego Antivirus Software

A bundle includes an app to remove Intego anti-virus protections. Before you can remove Intego from your computer, you will need to authorize VirusBarrier by using a menu choice.
