Finding a good Mac anti-virus is hard. I tested most of the macOS ones.

Intego provides excellent customer support, despite the fact that it can be complicated to set up. Intego is cheaper than many Mac-based viruses. Intego was also the number one Mac antivirus in 2022.

Intego Full Review

Intego will be my favorite internet security program for Macs in 2022.

Intego detected and eliminated all Mac-specific viruses that I tested. It also features many additional security options that are more effective than Apple’s own protections.

Intego also offers a premium BundleX9 plan with the Intego virus scanner, firewalls, web security, data back-up, parental controls and more. This bundle includes more functionality, but costs less than other Mac anti-viruses.

VirusBarrier Malware Scanning

VirusBarrier – Intego Security’s malware scanner.

The dashboard is easy to use and includes essential security tools like an antivirus scanner, a live protection engine, scan schedule, malware removal, and even scanning scheduling.

VirusBarrier performs virus scans on your entire Mac as well as all connected drives. This allows you to find malicious files hidden on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Apple Mail allows users to connect to their email accounts.

My tests started with a Quick Scan. The scan was quick and only took two minutes. It scanned over 200,000 files.

After downloading a lot of Mac malware, I ran another Full Scan. VirusBarrier identified almost every threat on my Mac device. This included trojans, adware, and other potentially hazardous files. The engine immediately stopped any simulated ransomware attempts.

Itego made it possible for my to respond instantly to all threats.

After each scan was finished I clicked Repair. However it did indicate that repair failure had occurred for 6 files. However, it would be nice to have been notified by the program that the repair was failed so I could do something else sooner.

VirusBarrier provides a “Safe Browsing On” feature that checks if a website is using antiphishing software. Intego should offer more web security tools. VirusBarrier’s Email Viral Scan option can be a good compromise. I have not seen any Mac antiviruses providing an email scanning option.

I like VirusBarrier for the variety of scanning options. I like VirusBarrier for its variety of scan options.

NetBarrier — Mac Firewall

NETBarrier, Intego’s advanced firewall offers additional options that aren’t available with the Mac’s built-in firewall.

NetBarrier will detect the network that you are connected to and adjust your firewall security settings accordingly.

NetBarrier is a fantastic tool that alerts users of background scripts, apps and attempts to make internet connections. It lets users decide whether they allow or deny these connections.

NetBarrier applications tab shows a complete overview on all programs trying connection to the internet.

Intego’s NetBarrier Firewall is my favorite.

ContentBarrier — Parental Controls

ContentBarrier by Intego, a parental control tool, is more advanced than the Mac parental controls. ContentBarrier goes beyond blocking harmful websites. It includes keystroke tracking and antipredator alarms. It also records screenshots of your computer and blocks any unsuitable websites.

You can monitor your children’s internet use by monitoring their chat room. You can also choose to restrict access to a small number of websites. Before allowing your child the blocked sites to be accessed, you should ask permission.

Users may also request emails that provide periodic reports on their child’s Mac usage including site visits, email received and opened, chat history, and more.

ContentBarrier’s Anti Predator Monitoring Function that alerts users about bad actors online is my favorite. ContentBarrier sent me emails notifications whenever it detected potentially dangerous phrases or words being transmitted through chat rooms and messaging apps.

ContentBarrier is not easy to set up. It can be complicated to set up ContentBarrier.

ContentBarrier is an improvement over the default Mac parental management system. I believe parents will enjoy the numerous options and regular activity reporting.

Washing Machine — Mac System Optimizer

Washing Machine is a combination of a range of system organization features and Mac cleaning tools.

Intego’s Washing Machine does not have Mac speedup options. However, I really enjoy the Intego products.

Three options are available when you load the program:

• Reclaim
• Duplicates
• Organize

Reclaim

A scan of my entire device was performed to look for files that have been deleted or not being used.

Initial scan was completed in 5 minutes. It found about 20GB of junk files including logs caches.

I was able select the files I wanted removed from my Mac. Then I clicked Clean. The files were immediately removed from my Mac.

Duplicates The program scanned my Mac and found more than 900 duplicate files. There were sometimes six versions of the exact file.

To clear space on my hard-disk, I was able select and delete duplicates . has an exclusive feature that allows me to see duplicate files before I delete them

Organization allows users to organize their desktop files into folders. I also was able to rearrange my apps in my Dock to create new Smart Folders — folders that can be placed on the left-hand side of Mac Finder such as Applications, AirDrop and downloads.

Organise My favorite feature in Intego’s Washing Machine is the drag-and-drop functionality.

It was already quite well organized so I didn’t feel the necessity of rearranging it.

Washing Machine includes a number of great features. Intego could consider adding system speedups. Most Mac users are happy with Washing Machine.

Personal Backup – Customizable Backups

Personal Backup is an application that can back up important files. It works in the exact same way Apple’s Time Machine. It’s also more personal.

Personal Backup allowed me the ability to backup specific files or folders to an integrated or internal hard drive.

Personal Backup has the unique capacity to schedule multiple backups.

Personal Backup also offers many other options.

• Bootable Backup
• Synchronize
• Restore

Bootable Backup

It is possible to back up all of your Mac OS X systems using the current version. This means that if your Mac stops working, you can transfer all your Mac OS X files to another Mac.

Sync allows for file synchronization between multiple devices. If you have multiple devices such as an iMac and a MacBook, you can sync them both.

Restore Does exactly what it says — restores all data backups from your external drive.

Personally I consider Personal Backup superior to Apple’s Time Machine. However, it is not the only backup program I use for my Mac.

Intego offers many options. Many plans include Intego products. Although the Mac Washing Machine X9 fee is a one off fee, all plans offer 1 or 2-year protection.

Intego products offer great value. If you aren’t satisfied, you may return the product for a full reimbursement.
