Intego Virus Removal Review: Quick Expert Summary

It is difficult to find a Mac antivirus that works. After testing almost all the macOS anti-viruses I am confident:

• Intego Antivirus software is the best Mac-only product on the market

It is not perfect but Intego’s two macOS anti-malware engines, VirusBarrier & NetBarrier have been very helpful. They scored very high in my testing.

Intego offers many other tools in its Mac Premium Bundle HTML9 , including:

• washing machines — system optimizers and cleaners.
• Advanced Backup – advanced backup tool.
• ContentBarrier – Parental control (far more effective than Macs parental controls).

Intego can therefore be a good investment.

Intego’s customer support is excellent, even though it can be difficult to set-up. Intego also costs less than many Mac-based anti-viruses. Intego was ranked the #1 Mac antivirus for 2022.

Intego has been my favourite internet security suite on Macs since 2022.

Intego can detect and remove all Mac-specific malware, which I tested. Intego has additional security features that are far more effective than Apple’s.

Intego’s premium Bundle X9 plan includes the Intego Antivirus scanner, firewall and web security. It also includes data backup and parental controls. This bundle is more functional and less costly than other Mac antiviruses. It also includes the Intego firewall, web security, data backup, parental controls, and antivirus scanner.

Intego Security Features

VirusBarrier – Malware Scanning

VirusBarrier, Intego’s malware scanner, is

Its dashboard makes it easy to use essential virus protection tools such as an anti-virus scan, a real time protection engine, scan scheduling and malware removal.

VirusBarrier can scan your entire Mac, as well as any connected drives. This allows you scan your iPhone and iPad for any malicious files. Apple Mail app will be used to connect users’ email accounts.

The Quick Scan was the first step in my tests. The scan took less then two minutes and scanned over 200k files.

After downloading a variety of Mac malware samples I ran another Full Scan. VirusBarrier detected nearly every threat on my Mac, including trojans as well as adware. Finally, I tested VirusBarrier’s realtime malware engine with a series ransomware scenarios. The engine blocked all ransomware simulations.

Intego enabled me to immediately respond to any threat and gave me three options:

• Trust — Declares dangers as safe.
• Quarantine — Holds dangerous files in a secure vault.
• Repair — Removes viruses from infected files

After each scan was completed, I clicked Repair. But, it indicated that 6 of the potentially harmful files had been repaired. However, it would have been great to be notified by software that the repair was failed so I could try again.

VirusBarrier offers a “Safe Browsing On”, a feature that checks if a web browser is running anti-phishing programs. Intego could offer additional web security features. VirusBarrier’s Email Viral Scan option, however, is a great compromise to Intego’s lack of web-security tools. I’ve not seen any Mac antiviruses with an email scanning feature.

I like VirusBarrier because it offers many scan options. The next scans are much faster.

NetBarrier — Mac Firewall

NetBarrier offers advanced firewall options that are not available in Mac’s built-in firewall.

NetBarrier can detect which network you’re using and adjust your firewall security settings accordingly.

NetBarrier, a powerful tool that alerts you to background scripts or apps trying to make connections to the internet, is great. You can also choose to allow or deny connections.

NetBarrier Applications tab gives you a complete overview on all programs trying connect to the internet.

In general, I love the NetBarrier Firewall.

ContentBarrier — Parental Controls

ContentBarrier is a parental control software by Intego. ContentBarrier is more than just a website blocker. It has anti-predator alarms and keystroke tracking. It records screenshots and blocks infected websites.

You can view your children’s chat room to monitor their internet use. However, you can choose to only block certain websites. Ask your child for permission before they allow you to access the blocked sites.

Users have the option to opt for emails that give regular reports on their child’s Mac use. This includes site visits, emails sent and received, chat history, and other information.

What I love most about ContentBarrier’s Anti-Predator monitoring feature is the email notification it sends me whenever it detects potentially harmful phrases or words being sent through messaging apps or chat room.

ContentBarrier can be difficult for new users to set up. It can be complicated to set up ContentBarrier.

ContentBarrier’s wide range of features is a big improvement over the default Mac parental controls system. I believe parents will love the many options and the ability to report on activity.

Washing Machine — Mac System Optimizer

Washing Machine brings together a wide variety of system organization and Mac cleaning instruments into one app

Intego’s Washing Machine may lack Mac speedup options such as Avira’s Speedup Mac, but I really like what Intego offers.

You have 3 options to load the software.

• Reclaim
• Duplicates
• Organize

Reclaim

I did a complete scan of my entire computer looking for any files that were deleted or not being used.

In just 5 minutes, the initial scan was complete. A total of 20 GB were found in junk files, which included logs caches as well as downloads, downloads and trash.

Select the files you want to be deleted from your Mac and click Clean. It immediately deleted the files from my Mac.

Duplicates Scanning my Mac to find duplicate files found over 900 — sometimes 6 versions.

To free up space on my hard disc, I was then able to select and delete duplicates There is an unusual feature that allows me to see the duplicate files before I delete them

The tool allows you to organize your files into folders and rearrange your apps in the Dock. You can also create new Smart Folders — folders that are placed on the left-hand side of Mac Finder.

Organise This is my favorite feature of Intego’s Washing Machine. You can drag and drop files to specific folders, or into the trash.

It was already organized well so I didn’t feel the need to rearrange it. But, it can be useful if there are many uninstalled applications.

Washing Machine is packed with great features. Intego may also be interested in adding system speedups. But most Mac users love Washing Machine.

Personal Backup — Customizable Backups

Personal Backup is an application that can be used to backup important files. It works the same as Apple’s Time Machine. But it is more personal.

Personal Backup allowed me to backup certain files or folders onto an internal or external integrated hard drive.

Personal Backup has the unique capability to schedule multiple backups.

Personal Backup also offers several options like:

• Bootable Backup
• Synchronize
• Restore

Bootable Backup

Your entire Mac OS X system can be backed up with the latest version. This means that if your Mac crashes, you can quickly transfer all of its contents to another Mac.

Synchronize allows you to sync files between multiple devices, such as an iMac to do work and a MacBook for traveling.

RestoreDoes exactly what it claims — restores any backups made to your external hard drive.

Personally I think Personal Backup is better than Apple’s Time Machine.
