Lookout Personal for iOS in 2022 — Email breach scanning, device locator & app update scanner.

Lookout has been a mobile security firm for over ten years.

Security

Lookout’s security tab is split into web and apps. App scanner scans users’ apps and flags trojans, viruses or malware.

It was simple to locate the Test Virus app on Itus Mobile Security. It also flagged Multiple accounts of Zhuoan Technology as malware. This program lets you clone popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook. It worked for me, and I’ve since looked into it.

The company stopped participating in independent benchmarking tests.

It is fast to connect but it can be difficult to disconnect.

The web security module creates a VPN connection to block malware or phishing sites. It blocked access to five URLs that I tested. The popups and the HTTP error that Chrome displayed caused by this result were both visible.

It did not offer any way to disconnect the program. I was surprised to find no “disconnect VPN” option in the main menus. To get back to normal browsing, I had to go to my phone’s connectivity settings. If it was, then my home connection was automatically deemed “unsafe” and graphics were displayed about the dangers of unsafe connections.

The privacy tab provides an easy-to-access list of apps that have been granted permissions on your device. This includes read/write permission to your Google Calendar.

Anti-Theft Protection With Advanced Lock-Down Options

This incredible feature lets you remotely lock your phone in the event of theft or loss. It will take a photo of the suspect and send it to your wp-signup.phped email address

It worked very well. With my forward-facing camera, I was able take one clear picture. I received an email alert within seconds.

Breach Reports From Around the Mobile Web

Lookout also offers a “Breach Report”, which aggregates reports about data breaches across many Android apps. These apps can be found under the “your services screen”. The screen also includes information about data breaches that have occurred recently. I was not directly affected but I was able to read the report which covered more than 50,000,000 users.

Contacts, Photos, and Call Logs

Lookout includes a tool to automatically back up call logs, contacts, photos, and phone records. You can select which backup you want to run and when you connect to WiFi or another network. This is not likely to prove useful to Android users who synchronize contacts and photos with Google’s cloud.

Use it quickly

Lookout is easy to use and navigate. Multiple theft alerts can be set up and configured easily. You can also find a lot of information on the company’s menus. This allows you to view and activate remote triggers, as well as view the location of your device on a map. This information is required to report theft to police.

Support

Lookout claims to have the “best mobile security teams in the world”. Although it does provide decent user resources, they are not quite up to the mark.

This online help offers detailed information that can resolve common problems. There were no videos or photos, but the knowledge base links directly to company blogs which provide clear step-by-step instructions with lots of screenshots.

It took some time to locate the customized support channels, which only offer ticketing support. While I received a prompt answer to my test question , a live chat would have been very helpful .

Summary

Lookout Security & Antivirus (also known as Lookout Personal) has presumably found its niche thanks to its focus on identity security. Since its move to the current business model, Lookout Security & Antivirus hasn’t made any changes to its antivirus features. This was before I reviewed it in mid-2018.
