PrivateVPN was tested over several weeks and then reviewed by me. I wanted it to be a good choice for speed, security, and user-friendly apps. PrivateVPN was compared against other top VPNs to see if it’s a good value.

PrivateVPN offers fewer features than other VPNs. Also, it has a smaller list of servers than competitors. It is very private and it performed well in my streaming, torrenting, and speed tests. The app interface is simple. It’s also more affordable than many VPNs.

PrivateVPN has the following security features.

• AES encryption with 256 bits. This encryption can be used by banks and military worldwide to protect sensitive information.

PrivateVPN offers 4 internet protocols. These protocols suffice for most users. PrivateVPN should provide WireGuard such as CyberGhost VPN (PIA) or Private Internet Access. PrivateVPN needs to add WireGuard on their list of protocols. WireGuard performed somewhat better than other protocols in my tests.

PrivateVPN apps are extremely useful as they can block IPv6 traffic and have DNS leak prevention built in. PrivateVPN routes traffic through encrypted DNS servers, to prevent DNS leaks. I ran 10 DNS leak testing while connecting with 10 servers. My IP and DNS addresses weren’t revealed.

PrivateVPN is not able to offer WebRTC Protection – ProtonVPN or ExpressVPN are the best VPNs, and offer WebRTC protection. Other VPNs, such as CyberGhost VPN or Private Internet Access(PIA), provide browser extensions that disable WebRTC. PrivateVPN does have no browser extensions. You will need to use a 3rd party app, such as uBlock Origin, to prevent WebRTC leaks.

PrivateVPN is not able to offer additional services such as an ad blocker or split tunnelling. Private Internet Access as well as ProtonVPN provide anti-malware blocking features which prevent malicious websites and speed up website loading. Split-tunneling gives you the ability to control which apps and traffic will go through your VPN server. These are just two of the additional features I would like to see in PrivateVPN.

PrivateVPN includes additional security features like Stealth VPN (obfuscation) and Tor support.

Stealth VPN

The Stealth VPN feature of PrivateVPN allows you to hide your VPN traffic (from your ISP, ISP, and third parties) from the internet.

Your ISP can see that you use VPNs, but not what your online activities are. PrivateVPN VPNs offer obfuscation, which conceals your VPN traffic. It makes it look like you’re surfing without using a VPN. This is how VPNs can bypass VPN restrictions.

Stealth VPN will slow down your internet speed. This is because it adds an additional layer to your traffic encryption. StealthVPN could slow down your internet. You may experience lag when streaming or files take longer to download. In my tests, Stealth VPN took 4-5 second longer to load videos. However, there was no buffering when the videos were loaded.

TunnelBear’s and ExpressVPN’s obfuscation tools are similar to Stealth VPN. They all work well for bypassing internet restrictions. However, ExpressVPN has my preference because of its obfuscation feature.

PrivateVPN’s Stealth VPN function can be used for bypassing VPN restrictions, bypassing censorship and accessing restricted sites from countries like China.

Tor Support

PrivateVPN servers can be connected to The Onion Router.

It is a privacy network that hides IP addresses and encrypts traffic multiple-times. Tor is safer than VPN. VPNs prevent Tor entry nodes viewing your IP address. Tor over VPN allows users accessibility to.onion site in countries that have banned Tor network usage.

PrivateVPN’s Tor Over VPN makes it easy to use. You only need to connect via PrivateVPN and then open Tor to browse the Internet. Although the speed was slower than normal, I was still able to access.onion sites without any problems.

To find out the average speed PrivateVPN’s internetVPN, I ran speed tests across 60+ countries. I was able to download at a rate of around 40% faster than my baseline speed. This is quite an achievement — I was capable of streaming, torrenting and playing on almost every server.

Windows/Mac (Desktop)

PrivateVPN’s Desktop Application was successfully installed on both my Windows 10 Laptop and MacBook. The app’s intuitive interface and ease of use are great.

Windows apps offer two view modes: Simple and Advanced. This is a fantastic feature.

The Simple view is easy to use and great for beginners. The power button allows you to connect to any server, or you can manually select one. Access live support and your account information from the main screen.

Advanced View will appeal to advanced users with more experience. PrivateVPN offers similar connections to mobile phones. Choose the VPN protocol (OpenVPN/PPTP) and the VPN encryption (128bit AES encryption or 256bit AES encryption). You can also see which port should be used for port forwarding. You can also track how many data you consume.

PrivateVPN can easily be turned on under the Settings Tab. This will instantly launch and connect with a server each time your device is turned on.

PrivateVPN allows you to manage leak protection and kill switches in a very easy way (it’s not available for Macs). You can find it in the connection Guard tab. If you are disconnected from VPN, Application Guard allows you to terminate specific programs within Windows apps.
