After running an on-demand scan, however, the scanner returned a number of false positives . These “threats” were labeled based on REVE’s definition database (the Helium app, for instance, was identified as “Android.Riskware.FakeApk.gUKNJ”), so I had to click the “remove” button to see what the program was suggesting I uninstall. These were all legitimate apps I should not delete. Users are advised to double-check the default recommendations of the scanner.

REVE allows users to manually check for virus updates and also set an automatic update check interval. This can be any time every 12 hours, every day or every two days.

You can also access a separate report screen. This allows you to combine PC and Android scan reports, if both products have been linked to the same account. A complete list of scan reports was available with symbols that indicated whether there were any threats. It was easier to find a particular report by separating the different scan types into tabs.

Users can remotely lock, unlock, and wipe devices using REVE’s online dashboard. Alarms may also be remotely activated for catching thieves. The web-based interface allows users to manage multiple REVE devices. can also be used to specify a trusted number that can be used to send encrypted text messages to activate the lock-down functions. I was unable to find my trial key by either checking my email or using the app, so I couldn’t add my smartphone to my dashboard’s devices. This would not have been a problem if I had a full licence. You can also view scan reports online from the dashboard

Privacy Evaluator ranks Apps

This app also includes a privacy assessment tool that grades each app according to its permissions. It then gives an overall rating of how risky your device is. A list of permissions granted to each app can be accessed by clicking on it. While the tool detected a few apps that I use with an orange warning symbol I decided to ignore them and continue using my browser.

Control of the Environment

The parental control button in the app allows users to give administrative controls to other devices that are linked to their REVE account. This tool allows protected devices to be filtered by category or blacklist.

Reve requires a few additional steps to set up.

I created a REVE account which gave me a generous 30-day trial and allowed me to access the online dashboard. You can use the same account for multiple REVE products. If you also use their PC tool, your data can also be linked.

However, the remote lockdown capabilities alone make it worth the price.
