REVE has three scanning options. The phone scanner scans apps and other storage directories. A customized scan and an app scanner.

The default scanner for phones is slow in scanning your handset. My initial scan took nearly five minutes. REVE offers the comprehensive scanning capabilities that I want in an Android antivirus. Below the icon, a line of text revealed the objects being scanned. The ability to choose from multiple apps to scan is something that I have never seen before.

Watch out for false positives

I couldn’t find a benchmark for REVE’s Android edition so I downloaded some virus checks from IKARUS Security. The viruses were detected as promised.

After running an on-demand scan, however, the scanner returned a number of false positives . These “threats” were labeled based on REVE’s definition database (the Helium app, for instance, was identified as “Android.Riskware.FakeApk.gUKNJ”), so I had to click the “remove” button to see what the program was suggesting I uninstall. These were all legitimate apps I should not delete. It is recommended that users double-check the default recommendations made by the scanner.

REVE lets users manually check for viruses and set an update interval. This can be set to every 12 hours, every other day, or every two days.

I set up a REVE account, which allowed me to enjoy a 30-day free trial and access to the online dashboard. Your data can be linked if you use the REVE PC tool.

I needed to give access to the app administrator to use the app app lock function. This allows users to set up either a pattern-based or number-based lock for certain apps.

Support

REVE makes it simple to contact support. All you have to do is place a “Support chat” option. You can also do this from the app. After clicking the button, an agent joined my chat room and sent me an email.

The company maintains a telephone support center. It even uses a VoIP service (KloudTalk), which ensures that there is no cost to users.

Although there are some nice extras such as video tutorials and video guides, this support is extensive.
