Cylance achieved a 95% malware detection rate during my testing. This is quite high, but not as high as Norton. Cylance’s real time scanner was very fast and didn’t slow down my device.

The scanner claims that its artificial intelligence can detect and remove malware as accurately or as any signature-based malware scanner.

Cylance was able to detect and quarantine nearly 1,000 malware samples on my test computer. This included trojans, ransomwares, cryptojackers, spyware, and ransomware. The malware samples were trojans, ransomware, cryptojackers, worms, and spyware that I had installed onto my test PC by Cylance. However, it is not as effective as Bitdefender and Norton, which both detected 100% of the files.

Cylance was very lightweight on my computer. Most antiviruses have a minimal impact on your computer’s performance, particularly during virus scans. Cylance’s machine learning technology was lightweight and had minimal impact on my computer’s functionality.

Cylance flagged many safe files as malware, and quarantined them for me without any notification. Cylance quarantined the video games I downloaded from Steam as well as benign system file. To run a manual scan you will need to turn Cylance on using the command line. This is not an easy task for those who aren’t tech-savvy. Cylance seems to have limited on-demand scanning for advanced users who want to double-check files they aren’t sure about. However, I don’t see why Cylance didn’t include some on-demand scan options within its desktop interface.

Cylance’s support staff emailed me with the complicated steps to access Cylance’s on-demand scanner. I then tested the malware scanner. For testing, I saved over 1,000 malware samples to my test computer, including trojans and viruses. The manual scan of my C drive was then performed. It took me just over 20 minutes to scan my C: drive. This is a huge improvement on the time taken by most antiviruses (for instance, Bitdefender took almost an hour).

Cylance found 1,048 malware samples out of over 1,100. This is a good result for a malware scanner. It detected 1,048 of the more than 1,100 samples.

All malware files were moved by the scanner to a quarantine folder, where I was able to easily remove them using Cylance’s online dashboard.

Cylance’s malware scanner does a great job of detecting malware. However, it should be avoided by advanced users. Advanced users will be able to access the scanner through more complicated steps. It’s as reliable and accurate as Cylance’s flagship real-time security feature.

Cylance is a real-time malware scanner. The only thing that makes Cylance plans different is the number of devices each plan covers. You can choose to have Cylance cover one, five, or ten devices with either a monthly, annual or biennial subscription.

TotalAV, on the other hand, is an excellent, user-friendly alternative with tons of additional features.

Cylance Smart Antivirus can only be downloaded in the USA, Canada, UK and Ireland. This is a disappointment as most other antiviruses offer Windows, Mac, iOS and Android packages in a range of languages. Norton 360 plans include plans and support in many languages.

Cylance offers coverage on a wide range of devices at a very affordable price. Users will also appreciate the user-friendly, hands-off approach to anti-malware protection.

Cylance is easy to use and set up

Cylance took me just a few minutes to download, install, and set up. This is a small program. After I had paid for my plan I received an email inviting me to create Cylance accounts. I was then able to download Cylance’s installer.

After Cylance finished installing, there was no sign of it running. Cylance’s basic desktop interface was accessible by clicking on the Cylance icon from my Windows toolbar.

Cylance’s desktop interface displays a list of malware events that occurred on your system. It does not offer a timeline, but it lists when malware files were detected, deleted from quarantine and marked as safe.

Cylance’s iOS and Android apps have a few good features, but they are not very impressive. Cylance’s mobile apps include:

• Network safety.
• Activity Monitor.

Cylance was tested on my iPhone 11S and Huawei P30 Lite.

Cylance’s App Safety tool scans Android apps for malicious behavior. It detected about 90% of Android-specific malware on my test device. Although this is a good result, it’s not as efficient as Norton or Bitdefender, which detected 100% of Android-based threats during our testing. Cylance had very little effect on my battery life. Both my iPhone and Android rated Cylance among the most battery-draining apps.

The Device Safety tool notifies you when your OS is outdated. This is not very helpful. Cylance’s device safety feature, which is available on iOS and Android, does not notify users when updates are available.

Cylance’s Network Safety feature provides important information about your networks such as your IP address, gateway and gateway. It also tells you if your network is unsecured. Bitdefender and Norton both offer VPN protection for mobile users.

The Activity Monitor was a great tool that I found very useful. It shows how many security checks Cylance has performed across your devices, networks, apps, and other devices. It was very easy to keep track of all the threats and checks Cylance performed on my device.

Cylance’s mobile application is not as robust as other top Android antiviruses. It doesn’t provide anti-theft protections or parental controls.

Cylance’s mobile app is an acceptable option for Android users who are looking for lightweight scanners with Wi-Fi protection.

Cylance does not offer live chat or phone support, but they do have an extremely responsive email support team who are knowledgeable and helpful.

Cylance’s online support system was frustrating to use, so I sent a question by email. The text fields were very narrow so I couldn’t see the individual lines of text I was typing. To submit a support ticket, I needed to enter my order number. This meant that I had to search my email inbox for it. Most competitors, such as Norton, only require you to log in to your web dashboard.

But I was surprised to receive a detailed reply from Cylance’s email support team within less than an hour. Although this is faster than many competitors, it’s not as quick as Bitdefender or Norton’s live chat and telephone support.

Overall, Cylance’s email service was excellent. However, there are too many steps to send an e-mail and no live chat.

Is Cylance Smart antivirus any good?

Cylance SmartAntivirus is an AI-based malware scanner. It’s particularly effective at protecting against viruses, but there are better alternatives.

The real-time scanner works well and I liked that it was always on. However, during testing, the system kept me informed of safe files being quarantined. The web-based dashboard is intuitive and I had no trouble managing my files across multiple devices via the online interface. Cylance’s 95% detection rate makes it a safe bet. However, it is not as secure than the 100% earned by McAfee, Bitdefender and Norton in my testing.

Cylance doesn’t have the same helpful security tools as its competitors. You don’t get web protections or anti-phishing parental controls, a VPN, password managers, or web protections.

Although Cylance does not have the most advanced internet security suites, it has all the features you need. This makes Cylance a great antivirus choice for those on a tight budget.
