My testing revealed that Cylance had a 95% rate of malware detection. Although this is impressive, it’s not as good as Norton. Cylance’s real-time scanner was extremely fast and didn’t slow down my device.

Cylance’s continuous protection scans your device for malicious activity – the machine-learning-based scanner of the company is trained from a continually updated database with over 2 billion malware codes samples. According to the scanner, its artificial intelligence is capable of detecting and removing malware as accurately as any signature-based scanner.

Cylance detected and quarantined nearly 1,000 malware samples from my test computer. These included trojans and ransomwares as well as cryptojackers, spyware, ransomware, and ransomware. Trojans, ransomwares, cryptojackers and worms were all samples of malware that I had downloaded onto Cylance’s test PC. It isn’t as efficient as Bitdefender or Norton, which detected 100% of the files.

It took me only a few minutes for Cylance to download, install and set up. It is a simple program. After I paid for my plan, I received an email inviting to create Cylance accounts. The Cylance installer was downloaded and I was able to use it.

Cylance’s web dashboard can be accessed from mobile devices and made changes. This is a significant advantage over Trend Micro’s clunky and unhelpful remote management tools. Cylance should offer both a robust desktop app and an extensive online dashboard like Bitdefender or Norton.

Cylance was simple to use and intuitive. Cylance’s desktop popup window lets you easily view the changes that have been made to your device. Users with shared plans can use the web dashboard to remotely manage their devices.

Cylance’s iOS- and Android apps offer a few nice features but aren’t very impressive. Cylance’s mobile applications include:

Cylance was tested with my iPhone 11S, and Huawei P30 Lite.

Cylance’s App Security tool scans Android apps to detect malicious behavior. My test device was able to detect 90% of Android-specific malware. This is a great result, but it’s not as effective as Norton or Bitdefender which detected 100% Android-based malware during our testing. My battery life was not affected by Cylance. Cylance was rated among the worst battery draining apps by both my iPhone and Android.

Device Safety tool will notify you when your OS has become outdated. This isn’t very useful. Cylance’s device security feature on iOS and Android does not notify users about updates.

Cylance’s Network Safety function provides valuable information about your networks, such as your gateway, IP address and gateway. It will also inform you if your network has been compromised. Both Bitdefender and Norton offer VPN protection for mobile users.

I found the Activity Monitor a very useful tool. It displays how many security checks Cylance performed on your devices, networks and apps. It was easy to track all the security checks Cylance did on my device.

Cylance’s mobile app isn’t as robust as top Android antiviruses. It does not provide parental controls or anti-theft protections.

Cylance’s Android app is an acceptable choice for Android users looking for lightweight scanners with Wi Fi protection.

Support for Cylance customers

Although Cylance doesn’t offer phone or live chat support, they do have a responsive email support team that is knowledgeable and helpful.

Cylance’s online support system is difficult to use so I sent an email asking a question. I couldn’t see what I was writing because the text fields were so narrow. To submit a support ticket I had to enter my order number. This meant I had to search my inbox for the order number. Norton and other competitors require that you log in to your web dashboard.

Surprised to get a detailed response from Cylance’s support team in less than an hour, I was pleasantly surprised. This is quicker than most competitors but it’s not as fast as Bitdefender’s live chat or Norton’s telephone support.

Overall, Cylance’s email services were excellent. There are too many steps involved in sending an e-mail, and there is no live chat.

Cylance Smart antivirus is any good?

Cylance SmartAntivirus uses AI to detect malware. Although it is particularly effective in protecting against viruses, there are better options.

I like that the real-time scanner is always on. During testing, however, I was kept informed by the system about safe files being quarantined. The online dashboard is easy to use and allows me to manage my files from multiple devices using the same interface. Cylance’s 95% detection rates make it a solid choice. It isn’t as secure as McAfee and Bitdefender, but it was more secure than Norton, Norton, and McAfee in my testing.

Cylance does not have the same security tools as other companies. Cylance doesn’t offer web protections, anti-phishing parental controls or a VPN. Password managers and web protections are not available.
